There is a very interesting split on Josh Hamilton. Here it is:
Hit .195 during the day in 2007.
Hit .326 at night in 2007.
I would expect these numbers to be reversed. Anyone have any theories on this?

Does Josh Hamilton have night vision?Hi Shermboat. That is an amazing differential. The only thing I can come up with is that Josh Hamilton concentrates more at night to see the ball better.

Does Josh Hamilton have night vision?Hi Sherm! Those are interesting stats. You wouldn't Josh me, would you? Bad attempt at humor, sorry. But, being that I am Josh Hamilton's fourth biggest fan, (after his clinging Ma & Pop [was that a problem?], his wife, and you) I'd say that unfamiliarity with night games, and, thus lights, may be the factor in this case. Looking back at his short and often interruptred career, tells the tale. "You could look it up" -- Casey Stengel. He has had little experience of playing The Game under the lights and, those lights were seldom top shelf. I feel that he will make this small adjustment and orientation while he is "tweaking" the grandest of all life's potential problems. Now that I'm aware of your information, I can add it to my rooting! Thanks, I needed to know that. |

Does Josh Hamilton have night vision?Cjheez, Sherman -- I re-read your blog and realized that I too, need to acquire some better vision--period--day and night. My theory is blown away (a meek and humble lol). These facts are all the more puzzling. Maybe just an oddity? What's the total number of day games played vs. night games and his PA's, too? Righthanded pitchers faced vs.southpaws? If you don't mind posting those statistics, I'd enjoy discussing the possibilites that they may suggest towards the better understanding of your blog conundrum! Hey, y'all--this is serious stuff. Baseballists must double as sleuths, too. It's a requirement, by-gosh! I look forward to Sherm's latest and more detailed stats on the "night vision" of Josh Hamilton. Thanks again. I must locate my magnifying glass and a couple of blood-hounds, too. Hmmm. |

Does Josh Hamilton have night vision?Based on the facts I set out above and the splits Sherm has presented, the most obvious explanation is that Josh Hamilton is a superhero. Superheroes always perform their best at night when the stakes are at their highest. You don't need to check Sports Illustrated; you need to check Marvel. Baseball Jones ~~ Hustling since 1980 |

Does Josh Hamilton have night vision?Superheroes always perform their best at night when the stakes are at their highest. Hahaha. Seriously though, I was thinking that this might be some kind of pattern of people with drug abuse in their past. Most drug users use at night. My thinking is maybe his brain might be more active at night because of his drug use? I don't know. Any theories are welcome... |
